A Look Back at Inside Bitcoins Singapore

To kick off 2015, itBit was proud to be a sponsor and exhibitor at Inside Bitcoins Singapore. The two-day event, which was held in late-January at Suntec Convention Centre, brought together Bitcoin experts and enthusiasts from Singapore and the Asia Pacific region.

Conference attendants were able to take in talks and panel discussions on an array of Bitcoin topics ranging from regulations and use cases to Blockchain 2.0. Among these experts and thought leaders and experts were itBit’s Chief Compliance Officer, Erik Wilgenhof Plante, and Director of Business Development, Antony Lewis.

Erik’s session titled “Non Compliance Risk for Financial Institutions and its Implications for Bitcoin” discussed the importance of compliance in the Bitcoin industry. The discussion emphasized itBit’s core philosophy: establishing and maintaining regulatory compliance in all countries of operation.

Antony participated in two lively panels. The first, “Bitcoin, Remittances, and the Developing World”, is a subject that is close to the heart of many in the region. Antony was joined on the panel by Luis Buenaventura (SCI), Ron Hose (Coins.ph), Hugh Madden (ANX), Dominik Well (Bitcoin Vietnam) and Harry Yeh (Binary Financial) with Eddy Travia (Seedcoin) serving as the moderator. Together they discussed the practicality of Bitcoin as an instrument for remittances and weighed some of the hurdles including the ‘last-mile’ problem, price volatility and regulation.

Antony’s second panel looked into the future and beyond bitcoin as we currently know it. Bitcoin 2.0 and Blockchain Startups: What Really Matters featured Wendell Davis (Hive), Daniel Feichtinger (Hyperledger), Marcus Swanepoel (BitX) and Willson Lee (Bitcoin World Tour) and was once again moderated by Eddy Travia (Seedcoin). The panelists discussed some use cases where a blockchain would be appropriate, and challenged the current belief that blockchain could be the answer to everything.

Final Thoughts

Overall, it was a fruitful event for itBit and we were delighted for the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with our peers and enthusiasts across the Bitcoin industry. The fun even extended beyond conference hours as itBit hosted a pre-conference outing for drinks which received a great response!
